For my project, I'd like to create a short film containing visual effects shots showing my compositing skillset. The project will also include lots of CG, so I hope to partner with a few other students who specialize in various things. I'd like to make a short film that encourages people to think deeply about their lives and the concept of time itself. My project follows an open-ended story of a man who meets his younger self. This character is supposed to serve as a blank slate. Though the audience will be looking at this one character for the majority of the film, the story is never meant to only be about him. He is just representing a metaphor, theory, and idea. This character will ideally have no lines, and the film will be narrated throughout.
The current narration script draft is as follows:
"Time... an invisible thread that binds us all, yet slips through our fingers with every passing second. Time is the one constant, always moving forward, unyielding. From the birth of the universe to the farthest reaches of the cosmos, it flows endlessly, touching every star, every planet... and every life.
They say time moves differently at the edges of the universe. But here, for us, it is linear... relentless. We march onward, never pausing, never looking back. Yet, what if for just a moment, time itself softened? What if, in a brief flicker, you could step beyond the rules?
Imagine this... the impossible chance to turn back, not through history or to great moments, but to the simple truth of yourself. How far would you go? To a moment of joy? A moment of pain?
Now, ask yourself: if you could stand face to face with the child you once were, eyes wide with wonder, heart untarnished by the weight of the world... what would you say?"
I love the current narration script, and could even see myself sticking with it from here on out. Of course, there is always room for improvement, and I will continue to workshop this script. However, I think this narration fits my exact idea. I believe due to the way it's structured, it could even be changed or reorganized in editing. Even though it's not my goal to make last-minute changes to a script, I feel comfortable knowing I can if needed.
